Office tale of Vanessa Eckstein, founder of Blok Design

Published by Leonardo Calcagno

Who are you :
An idealist in constant search

Your current job :
Designer and thinker (passionate one)

In which city are you located?
Toronto

A word to define what kind of worker you are :
Unconformist and relentless spirit (One would not do!)

What tools are essential to your life (app, software, etc..)
A camera and my eyes

What does your office space look like?
Open, collaborative, full of life with many many wonderfully designed chairs.

What kind of music do you listen when you are working ?
We listen to the train that runs almost next to us. It is the poetic sound of transition

Do you have a way to organize your day to maximize your work ?
We have monday morning meetings so we all know what is happening in the studio and what we need to finish or work on. After that each can figure out their best way to flow.

What tips would you give to improve productivity ?

Funny, I don;t believe in productivity as a way. WE are creative individuals and creativity is inspired not produced. Keeping a studio that is curious by nature and never conforms is much more interesting to me than how fast or slow you are. We try to create that physical and mental space, the conditions for great work to happen.

You’re better than your colleagues :
Eating chocolate. (definitely no one here eats as much as I do)

What is the best advice anyone has given you ?
Stay true

What is your best tip for saving time ?
To live.

What is your routine start and end of the day ?
I can think of 2 things I do routinely… that is rush to drop my kids to school On time (a challenge in itself) and have tea and chocolate every day after lunch with my whole studio.  Both… I truly enjoy.
