Office tale of Abdurrahman Davids, graphic designer and illustration

Published by Leonardo Calcagno

Who are you :
I am Abdurrahman Davids. Graphic Design, illustration and branding is what I breath.

Your current job :
Freelancin’ , just recently graduated from university.

In which city are you located?
Perth, Western Australia

A word to define what kind of worker you are :
Pffft…Hard Workin’ of course.

What tools are essential to your life (app, software, etc..)
A lot of tools, but the most important one is Youtube (Youtube a tool you are not!). I’ve learnt so much off Youtube videos and tutorials it’s insane.

What does your office space look like?
A nice size room, I’ve got my computer setup on one side of the room (see picture), and my gaming console and TV setup on the other side. So if things get a bit too crazy and stressful, I can just make a 180° turn then BOOM! I am in Minecraft finishing off my tree-house/mansion-on-a-tree.

What kind of music do you listen to when you are working ?
Depends on what I’m doing. I sometimes go from Rock to Hip Hop, but most of the time chillstep is all I listen to, especially when illustrating.

Do you have a way to organize your day to maximize your work ?
Hmmm not really, although I should. If the work is not done, I don’t sleep.

What tips would you give to improve productivity ?
Hibernate.

You’re better than your colleagues at :
Chess
Gaming
…everything.

What is the best advice anyone has given you ?
Live and breath what you love. One of my advertising tutors told me something like that, he was a dick, but very good at creative advertising.

What is your best tip for saving time ?
You can’t save time, time saves you.

What is your routine start and end of the day ?
If I decide to stay home for the day, this is how it goes:
Wake up – make cereal – walk to my computer – continue working on whatever I was working on the night before whilst eating cereal – eventually shower – back on computer – make lunch – back to computer, surf the net whilst eating lunch –
more designing or illustrating – eat dinner – start gaming/watch a movie or TV show – sleep.

Aside from your computer and your phone, what gadget can you not live without?
Wacom tablet.
