Creation workshop and Exhibition
Les Territoires is launching a call for submissions for a third edition of creation workshops led by German artist Miriam Jonas. The workshops aim to bring together four emerging artists from diverse backgrounds to create a collaborative work.
In her sculptural work, Miriam Jonas playfully tricks her audience by subverting the functions of the objects she creates or employs. Our expectations are constantly diverted. These amusing eccentricities construct new realities through a mixture of art, craft and technology practices. Humor is a key strategy in her practice. Her wit stems from quirkiness; often creating a space that requires a repositioning of the viewer.
This third edition of the creation workshop is built around the concept of absurdity and destabilization, informed by discussions on deconstruction by the French philosopher Jacques Derrida. The goal of the artists’ work is to further develop this concept through research, the production of individual works, and the production of a collective work.
This project will enrich the participants’ artistic process, disseminate their work and help them connect with other professionals in the arts community.
The workshops will be held at the gallery for scheduled sessions of five hours per week as a group and five hours of individual work or in a subgroup during the month of June. The workshop sessions in July will be determined according to the needs of the selected group. The workshop concludes with an exhibition at Les Territories outlining both the creative process and results of the work. Workshops will be held in the premises of Les Territoires. The exhibition will be from July 31st to August 23rd, 2014.
