FUTURE 33 presents the work of 33 Toronto artists who are currently producing compelling, relevant artwork. By bringing together a unique selection of acclaimed Toronto-based artists, the exhibition acts, as lookbook of those whom we believe will redefine the landscape of both the local and international art scene. LaToya Ruby Frazier
Friday, May 27, 2016 – 6pm
Informed by documentary practices from the turn of the last century, photographer and video artist LaToya Ruby Frazier uses visual autobiographies to capture social inequality and historical change in the postindustrial age. Join us for this special keynote presentation, in which Frazier will consider the work, legacy and influence of late iconic artist and photojournalist Gordon Parks and his contemporaries. To discover more about Gordon Parks, visit his work on display in the AGO exhibition “Outsiders: American Photography and Film, 1950s–1980s.”
Running with Art Critics: 90 minute three-gallery 5k.
A photography-focused 90 minute three-gallery 5k, with 15 minute intervals. We’ll spend 15 minutes at each gallery, where runner-critics will give a 5 minute response to each exhibition, and we’ll spend 15 minutes running to the next gallery at a gentle, conversational pace. Free and open to the public.
Start: 2 pm at the Koffler Gallery at 180 Shaw Street.
End: 3:30 pm at the Ryerson Image Centre at 33 Gould Street.
Participants are welcome to join in at any point along the route.
