Marcel Roder and I previously managed and owned cafes in and around the Sydney area.

 How did you discover kombucha?

I was often tired and generally unwell and I suffered constantly with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and nothing seemed to help. A friend encouraged me to go and have a consultation with a naturopath to see if this could help. At first, I rolled my eyes and did not believe anything could help but I was at my wit’s end with the pain and discomfort of living such a busy life and dealing with the pain of IBS every day that I decided to give it a go. The naturopath I saw encouraged me to make and drink my own Kombucha to help heal my gut.

 Why prompted you to start your company?

I got a great result as far as my health was concerned, and I loved how Kombucha made me feel (and my friends could see how much healthier I was since I started making and drinking Kombucha that they “wanted what I was having”.) 


What makes your product unique?

Mr Kombucha is made using the traditional, small batch recipe. We don’t believe that we should change a recipe that has worked for more than 2000 years. We use local, fresh produce whenever possible.


What do you want to convey through your brand image?

Mr Kombucha is made using the traditional, small batch recipe. Mr Kombucha is an amazing drink that really works as a health tonic and is a refreshing and energizing drink.


What are the main challenges in your company?

Demand is beginning to outstrip supply, however, we have put strategies in place to ramp up our production.


What tools are essential for your work (app, software)?

As our product is totally handmade, our switched on staff are vital to the success of our business - they need to use and totally believe in our product - they are our front line. We do a lot of farmer’s markets and therefore need all our market stalls to be well presented and our market workers to be knowledgeable and interested. We use Xero for our accounts. Social media is a vital part of our business as this helps spread the word about Mr Kombucha. We have a brand ambassador and will work with him to raise the profile of our brand across all media.

What tips would you give to improve productivity?

Be well prepared. Value your staff. Make the working environment a healthy, happy place to work.


What is the best advice you have been given?

Be authentic in all you do.


What are your end-of-day and early-day routine?

Early day - quick workout, good healthy breakfast (with a big glass of Mr Kombucha!)

End of day - a glass of wine, feet up and chill.

My pocket-sized PH meter.

Working with our newly appointed brand ambassador to raise the profile of Mr Kombucha within the well-being and gym industries. Continue to grow business in cafes, stores, and markets. |
