Who are you and your current job :

I own the store with my husband, Phil. We both worked at music shops through high school and we never lost the love of music or the fun we had working at the indie music shop. Our shop was originally opened as a vintage clothing shop. When we bought the store a little over a year ago we added vinyl. It made sense to add the records. At first, we only had new records, but we now have both new and used.

In which city are you located?

Mansfield, Ohio

What musical styles do you specialize in?

We really like to stock a variety of genre’s, but we have a personal affinity for singer-songwriters.

Can you give a small tour of the music scene in your town?

It’s big! Lots of bands who write their own music, mostly rock.

What’s it like working in a record shop?

It’s the best!! It’s so much work, It’s hard to keep up with everything. Getting through all the used records, staying on top of social media, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I can’t imagine doing anything else. This is what I am supposed to be doing.

What mind-blowing album are you listing right now?

Durand Jones and the Indications. Amazing vocals and horns! Funk/Soul like you’ve never heard.

What does it take for an indie record shop to survive?

For us, it’s having the vintage clothing and my husband still has his full-time job. The margin on new records is very thin and there is lots of competition from streaming services. It’s an old idea that is becoming new again in our city.

What does Record Store Day, mean to you and your business?

This will be our first April RSD. So far it means, bringing awareness to our shop and educating people on what RSD is. We also hope it brings people into our downtown. It’s great a downtown and we want people to experience all it has to offer.

Tips for musicians launching an album?

Be consistent, meaning, pick a name and stick with it, pick your logo and stick with it. You want people to recognize you in every way.

Get on social media, put your music out so people can hear it.
