Le Roar Grrrz, a wild ale aged in oak barrels, was originally released in 2013 and new variations are a yearly staple for the Williamsport, Pa. based brewery.
When I opened one of these up at my birthday party last Saturday, it immediately became a crowd favorite. One friend even told me it was the best he’s ever had. Barrel aged for 4 years (!) and then blended with a fresh lambic and , it’s an amazing beer for everyone including people who are not used to having gueze-style sours. These beers have been known to out match some of the brewing legends of Belgium.
Beer nerds for years have loved these beers, but you can join them in that love now.
We got our hands on three different variants:
- Le Roar Grrrz Black Raspberry — Gueuze-style beer blended from ale aged in oak barrels between one and four years, then conditioned on black raspberries and bottle-conditioned with Belgian candi sugar.
- Le Roar Grrrz Kriek — Gueuze-style beer blended from ale aged in oak barrels between one and four years, then conditioned on cherries and bottle-conditioned with Belgian candi sugar.
- Le Roar Grrrz Cocoa Framboise — Gueuze-style beer blended from ale aged in oak barrels between one and four years, then conditioned on fruit and bottle-conditioned with Belgian candi sugar.
