Who are you:

Laura Sásdi

Your current job:

I work as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer. At the moment I’m working on

the package design for a new coffee brand.

In which city are you located?

Budapest, the capital city of Hungary

A word to define what kind of worker you are:

What does your office space look like?

It’s very organized right now but can get messy after drawing. I have a bunch of

books and postcards that inspire me on my desk and wall. My office is in a rooftop

room so it can get really hot during the summer.

What kind of music do you listen to when you are working?

I love to pop the same as rock music. However, while I’m working, I usually listen to acoustic indie music or electronic music.

Do you have a way to organize your day to maximize your work?

I tried a lot of applications for organizing my week but ironically a good old-fashioned table calendar helps me much more.

What tips would you give to improve productivity?

Every morning I dress up like I’m going to work because I can’t be productive in pajamas. Then I keep my phone far away from my workspace to minimize distractions.

You are better than your colleagues to:

I can recommend the best books and tv shows!

What is the best advice anyone has given you?

This is an advice I still struggle with: don’t be shy to send your portfolio to publishers

or agencies! There is nothing to lose even if they don’t answer.

What is your best tip for saving time?

Try to find every distraction and get rid of it!

Check your Facebook and Instagram account only once a day.

What is your routine start and end of the day?

I start the morning with an energizing shower. After breakfast, I usually answer emails

then I start with creative work like sketching and drawing my ideas. Most of the day I try to polish these sketches into finished illustrations or design. I finish the day by relaxing in front of the TV or reading in bed.

Aside from your computer and your phone, what gadget can you not go without?

Probably my Wacom Cintiq tablet. It transformed the way I work since I got it. Without it, I wouldn’t be the illustrator I am today.

Budapest city guide x Laura Sásdi

Café

Magvető Café in the city center. It’s a café and a bookstore, a very inspiring

environment where you can work, learn or have meetings. I’m not a coffee person so

I can only recommend their tea which is amazing. (Dohány u. 13, 1074)

Restaurant

Budapest has some very nice restaurants. My favorite is Keksz and Jelen where

you can buy delicious lunch at a very good price, but only during lunch hours.

(Keksz: Madách Imre tér 4, 1075; Jelen: Blaha Lujza tér 1, 1085)

Shopping

WAMP design market is a place where you can buy authentic and modern Hungarian

design products every month. (Erzsébet tér, 1052)

Grocery

The century-old market halls on Rákóczi Square and Fővám Square. They’re one of

the most favorite tourist spots but they’re worth a visit!
