Birmingham’s the underrated jewel of the West Midlands – a marvelous cultural melting pot where locals work together to make the city great and visitors are surprised by their satisfying sojourns.
If you’re thinking about moving home and want a buzzing location that’s not as hectic as London but punches above its weight when it comes to living standards, perhaps Brum’s the place to be.
With that in mind, here are five reasons Birmingham’s a brilliant city to relocate to.
1. Bullring & Grand Central
This distinctive building in the heart of Birmingham is a stone’s throw from New Street rail station and is one of Britain’s foremost shopping centers.
Shopping at Birmingham’s Bullring is an eclectic experience – there are over 200 chic boutiques to choose from, with brands including AllSaints, Barbour, Hugo Boss, and Kids Footlocker.
And when tummies start to rumble, they’ll be satisfied in restaurants like Browns Bar & Brasserie, Café Rouge, Nando’s and Thai Express.
2. Football
If you’re a fan of the beautiful game, Birmingham has two terrific footy teams to choose from.
Birmingham City FC currently competes in the EFL Championship and boasts skillful ballers like Jota and Che Adams.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa FC also currently occupies a Championship slot and has an impressive silverware collection, having won the sixth-most elite honors of any English outfit.
3. Caribbean food
There’s a robust Caribbean community in Birmingham and that means there are mountains of mouthwatering food to be found.
There are plenty of spicy eateries to choose from, but you won’t regret dining at Deep Experience – signature Jamaican dishes like ackee and saltfish, Hellshire Delight with snapper fillet and Boston Jerk Chicken are simply sublime.
Wash it all down with an ice cold Red Stripe beer, close your eyes and you can almost hear the Caribbean waves lapping against the shore.
4. Chocolate capital
If you and your kids love chocolate, as the home of Cadbury’s, Birmingham’s a global choccy capital.
And at the Cadbury’s World attraction, visitors get to be real life Willy Wonka’s by embracing an immersive 4D chocolate adventure, learning about the manufacturing process and traveling back 1000 years to an Aztec jungle where the cocoa tree was sacred to Emperor Montezuma and his followers.
There’s fun for all the family and plenty of chocolate on hand to fuel an energetic day out.
5. Great transport links
Due to its central geographical location, Birmingham is a major transportation hub in Britain.
So as well as the trains that travel through New Street to locations across the country, the West Midlands Metro enables commuting throughout the extended city area and there are over 50 bus operators running regular routes at all times of the day.
Meanwhile, you can fly from Birmingham non-stop to locations like Dublin, Hanover, and Islamabad – and finding BHX airport parking on Looking4.com is child’s play.
As you can see, becoming an adopted Brummie has many benefits – if you’re packing your bags already, we can’t blame you!
