As soon as the very first video hit social media showing how scared a cat can be from a simple cucumber, cats literally started to blow people’s minds. But if you can keep a secret, that is actually not only going to be the only weird thing that cats are trying to hide from you. In fact, cats are actually a very strange creature, meaning that there is still a whole lot that you can learn from them. Even if you already have a couple of cats in your home and are convinced that you know everything that there is to know about your cat, you are about to have your mind blown.
When it comes to cats, they have been around for so long that there is actually no way to really know where or when they were actually first domesticated. While it is thought that the domestication of cats originally happened in the ancient Egypt era, roughly 4,000 years ago, there has been new evidence that has come to light revealing that the domestication of cats may have originally happened about 8,000 years ago in the city of Cyprus, or even longer ago at 12,000 years ago someplace in the Middle East.
The one thing that we do know for sure about cats is going to be that they simply do not enjoy being startled, as well as that they have dreams. On top of that, it is even believed that we can predict what it is that they are dreaming about. Here are some weird facts about cats that you probably had no idea were a real thing.
They Actually Sweat Through Their Paws
Since cats are pretty much completely covered in fur, most of your cat’s sweat glands are going to be located in several different places throughout their body. That being said, most of these sweat glands are going to be located in their paws. This means that when you see little wet paw prints all across your kitchen, it is because your cat was walking around keeping cool, by sweating. Also, your cat is going to keep itself cool by panting and licking it’s fur as well.
Cats are Very Similar to Umbrellas
The phrase that your cat is going to be very similar to an umbrella, is going to be like saying that an ogre is similar to an onion. When it comes to your cat, being an umbrella is going to be a real thing whenever they are falling. They are going to tuck themselves into something that looks like an umbrella shape. This, however, is what allows them to always land on their feet, appropriately being called the cat righting reflex.
Cats Can Drink Seawater
While you already know that you should never drink water from the sea, cats are going to be completely different and have no problem when it comes to drinking seawater. This is due to them having kidneys that are much more efficient, meaning that they are able to filter out all of the salt that is in the water.
