Rules of Roulette

Published by Programme B

You would do well to find a casino game that is more thrilling and dynamic than the game of roulette, as there aren’t really any other games that rely so much on the inherent forces of physics. The roulette wheel is often the centerpiece of a casino, especially in places like Las Vegas or Monte Carlo that have a rich history of roulette gambling. Luckily for beginner gamblers, it is also one of the easiest to get to grips with too.

Roulette was invented all the way back in the 1800s, with a few rudimentary precursors popping up from as long ago as the 17th century. It caused such widespread excitement when it was first created that it almost single-handedly resulted in the proliferation of super casinos around Europe, just if you needed any more proof of its insane popularity. Read on for a guide to the rules or play Roulette today.

The basics

The rules of roulette are actually fairly simple, and this is the main reason why it is so widely played across the world even today. It is played on two main zones, the roulette wheel itself, and the betting table that is usually found along the side. Gamblers place their bets on the bet table, and then the dealer spins the roulette wheel to see who will emerge victoriously or not.

Roulette is also a highly communal game, with all the gamblers that are round the table effectively playing against the dealer. This means that the roulette wheel is often one of the most social places to be in a casino, yet another reason for its great popularity.

Some popular bets

There are several popular bets that gamblers use when playing roulette, but perhaps the most famous is the reds or blacks bet. Each value on the roulette wheel is colored in either black or red, and this bet allows you to bet money on the ball landing on any red value or any black value. As you might imagine the odds of winning are quite large here, however, the payout is also the smallest you can get whilst play roulette.

Another popular bet is on either odds or evens, and this corresponds to the odd and even numbers on the roulette wheel. Again the odds of winning are quite high here, however, the pay out is small. Gamblers can also choose a specific number to place their bet on, or a group of them that are all near each other on the paytable.

Differences between American and European roulette

One thing that people often forget or don’t even realize is that the fact that there is one essential difference between American and European roulette can truly make all the difference when you are gambling on these games.

American roulette has one extra zero value on the wheel, and this doubles the house edge. You can see why most people would suggest staying away from American roulette, especially when there is European roulette available.
