How To Deal With The Mess And Junk After Renovating Your House

How To Deal With The Mess And Junk After Renovating Your House

Published by Allen Brown

After you’ve spent countless hours and dollars building your dream home, the last thing you want to do is mess it up with junk. The mess and junk left behind after a renovation can be overwhelming, but there are some simple steps that will help you get back on track:

Keep the mess to a minimum

When you’re renovating, the mess is inevitable. That is why you should think of post renovation cleaning in advance. The best way to deal with mess is to keep it minimal by not letting junk accumulate wherever it lands. When something isn’t useful or necessary, find a place for it out of sight and out of the way so that you don’t have clutter building up around your house while you work on different parts of your renovation project.

It’s also important to be aware that there are some things that won’t mess up an area if they are left behind temporarily until their designated spot has been set up again after renovations are complete.

Have a plan for all of your old stuff

Of course, it’s not always as simple as just getting rid of everything that you don’t need anymore. In many cases, there might be items around your house that have a use for something other than what they were originally intended.

For example, an old chair with a broken leg can become the perfect pet bed if its upholstery is removed and replaced by some soft blankets or towels. Or maybe an old dresser becomes a great planter after the drawers are emptied out in favor of soil filled with plants.

Create an area in your new house for sorting through items

Regardless of whether or not you decide to keep some items from your renovation mess, it’s important that there is a designated area for sorting through junk and mess so that the mess doesn’t turn into clutter. This could be as simple as setting up a few cardboard boxes with labels on them such as “keep”, “sell” and “donate”.

Get rid of anything that doesn’t work with your new design!

For example, if you have upgraded from carpeting to hardwood floors, then get rid of any furniture that is made for carpeting (e.g., rugs) and get furniture for hardwood floors. If you’ve upgraded from a standard oven to a convection microwave, then get rid of your old stove and buy all new appliances that match the features (and colors) of your new home!

Make sure everything has its place

Don’t just leave things lying around on the floor or stacked up in piles where they can easily get knocked over by someone else who’s not aware of their location. Make sure that everything has its place so that it can be easily found when you need something and put away in a safe spot where junk won’t build up.

Your house renovation is complete! Now you have to deal with the mess and junk left over from your remodeling project. Don’t let all of that clutter get in the way of living comfortably in your new space. To keep things organized, we recommend taking these steps!
