How To Bet on Sports in Ontario

Published by Programme B

Canada recently passed a new law, making single-event sports betting legal. Previously, anyone living in the country could only place bets on parlays. This is where multiple options are added to the same bet. Since the law changed, individual provinces have been free to set their own regulations on sports betting. Ontario is one province that chooses to regulate the sports betting market, allowing adults living in the state to place real money bets.

On June 22, 2021, Canadian MPs enacted Bill C-218, removing the federal prohibition on single-game betting across the country and allowing specific provinces, such as Ontario, to regulate single-game sports betting. In August 2021, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG) Corporation announced expanded sports betting rules. Commercial sports betting companies are also poised to enter the market in 2022.

For now, Ontario residents can only place bets through the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation’s Proline+ service. This is an online sportsbook that offers odds on all of the latest sports. While it’s the only option right now, more sportsbooks may soon be able to launch in Ontario. This means that any bonus offers such as the BetRivers Ontario bonus code won’t be available to use just yet.

Getting Started with Ontario Sports Betting

As Ontario’s only option for sports betting right now is Proline+, you won’t have to spend a lot of time looking for a good sportsbook to use. The Proline+ sportsbook is operated by the OLG, but it provides an excellent sports betting experience. It’s available on the OLG website, which also offers lottery games and casino games if you prefer.

To start betting in Ontario, all you need to do is sign up and create your Proline+ account. There are also retail Proline+ terminals you can use at OLG stores throughout the province. Signing up for the service is simple, but you will need to provide an ID to prove you’re at least 19 years old. You’ll also need to be located in Ontario when you sign up, and your device will check your location.

Once you have a Proline+ account, you’re nearly ready to place your first bets. First, you’ll need to deposit cash, of course. Choose one of the accepted payment methods such as Interac or Instadebit to make an instant deposit. Make sure you follow the steps to claim your first deposit bonus. Proline currently offers a matched deposit offer worth up to $50.

From here, you can browse the available sports betting markets to find something to bet on. Whether it’s NBA, NHL, NFL, Premier League soccer, or anything else, you’ll be able to bet real money at Proline+. The site has a great range of betting markets to choose from, and placing a bet is as simple as choosing your option and then adding your stake.
