Who are you :
My name is Anna Sera Garcia, I’m a graphic designer / art director and a ukrainian-cuban nomad currently living in Canada.
Your current job :
I am a Senior Graphic Designer currently working at Sid Lee Toronto.
In which city are you located?
Toronto
A word to define what kind of worker you are :
Passionate and detail-oriented
What tools are essential to your life (app, software, etc..)
My tablet, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, a pencil and a few scraps of paper.
What does your office space look like?
As a creative I love to collect things that inspire me, so bits and samples of catalogs are always within reach, and of course books – many, many books and magazines that absolutely drain my bank account – however they do keep me happy, and always will.
What kind of music do you listen when you are working ?
Lately I’ve been reaching out for an Andrew Weatherall mix and ambient mixes that have little lyrics, this keeps me very much in the zone.
Do you have a way to organize your day to maximize your work ?
I like to get up early and make sure I allow a bit of time for myself, yoga, stretching – whatever gets the blood flowing. As a designer we’re always working on tight deadlines so it’s so very important to allow some time for yourself on that first part of the day. Once I get into the studio I warm up to a cup of coffee and plan out my day.
What tips would you give to improve productivity ?
Try timing how long it takes you to complete a project or job.
You’re better than your colleagues to :
There isn’t a better way, just different. We all have different skills and quirks, whatever works for you – is your forte!
What is the best advice anyone has given you ?
Be passionate about what you do and stay curious.
What is your best tip for saving time ?
Stop browsing Facebook posts.
What is your routine start and end of the day ?
I normally wake up at about 6:30 / 7, do some stretching / yoga, jump on my bike and head to the studio. My days vary a lot, there is no set time when we finish however staying late doesn’t mean you’ll be productive the next day – so having some time for myself in the morning and leaving at a reasonable hour helps in my work productivity and happiness overall. Of course, there are days when 1-2 am is the cut off time, not so luxurious but it is what gets the work done and can surely get a newly inspired idea in the door.
Aside from your computer and your phone, what gadget can you not you go without?
My moleskin
