     WHO ARE YOU :

Hello! I‘m Carolin Wanitzek, a multidisciplinary designer and art director based in Mannheim/Germany. Working in the field of scenography I blend graphic design, set design and photography. I have a passion for handmade graphics and three dimensional illustrations made out of paper and everyday objects to create extraordinary worlds.

YOUR CURRENT JOB :

I am partner of the creative studio OUI R. We are working for regional and international clients.

IN WHICH CITY ARE YOU LOCATED?

We are located in Mannheim, a city in the South/West of Germany. You can find our office in the creative district Jungbusch.

A WORD TO DEFINE WHAT KIND OF WORKER YOU ARE :

focused

WHAT TOOLS ARE ESSENTIAL TO YOUR LIFE (APP, SOFTWARE, ETC..)

I would say the tools, which are essential for work and also private are Wunderlist and Pinterest. For my work I use Photoshop and Illustrator for the digital part. Tools like cutter, ruler, pencil and glue are essential when I build paper models. When I think about the internet I use online portfolios or social networks especially Behance and Instagram that are used by creative people like me.

WHAT DOES YOUR OFFICE SPACE LOOK LIKE ?

Dreamlike! It‘s a 72 square meter studio on the 4th floor with much glas and a nice view of the cannel between the two rivers in Mannheim, Rhein and Neckar. I love our studio because it has enough space for us and our ideas.

WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU LISTEN WHEN YOU ARE WORKING ?

We are four people in our studio. Sometimes we listen to electronic music and sometimes we love to hear some Hip Hop beats.

DO YOU HAVE A WAY TO ORGANIZE YOUR DAY TO MAXIMIZE YOUR WORK ?

I love „to do lists“! They help me to recall everything I have to do on a day.

WHAT TIPS WOULD YOU GIVE TO IMPROVE PRODUCTIVITY ?

I think it‘s important to take enough time for breaks, especially for lunch or if you like to have a coffee in the afternoon, then do it. When you give your mind a short time out you fill up your energy reserves and will be more productive when you start working again. This is really important to me because it enables me to be more creative and get fresh ideas.

YOU‘RE BETTER THAN YOUR COLLEAGUES TO :

I‘m better for the things which are rich in detail and where you need patience in creating handmade objects.

WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE ANYONE HAS GIVEN YOU ?

Do something, that makes you happy!

WHAT IS YOUR BEST TIP FOR SAVING TIME ?

It‘s really time saving if I extensively develop my ideas before I start building the objects. My drafts match in shape and color to the final illustration. I have learned, that this kind of approach is the best workflow for elaborate projects. Otherwise you loose so much time building things again and again.

WHAT IS YOUR ROUTINE START AND END OF THE DAY ?

It‘s really important for me to have an extensive and healthy breakfast with a soymilk coffee in my kitchen to start my day. During coffeetime I check the daily news and my emails.

ASIDE FROM YOUR COMPUTER AND YOUR PHONE, WHAT GADGET CAN YOU NOT YOU GO WITHOUT?

I always need a snack in my bag 😉 www.carolinwanitzek.de, www.oui-r.de
