Office tale of Hieu Trieu, graphic designer

Published by Leonardo Calcagno

Who are you:
Hi, I’m Hieu Trieu – Senior Graphic Designer

Your current job:
At the moment, I’m working as a Freelance Graphic Designer

In which city are you located?
Ho Chi Minh City, one of the biggest city in Vietnam. A beautiful, busy, crowded, and challenging one.

A word to define what kind of worker you are:
Innovator

What tools are essential to your life (app, software, etc..)
Adobe master collection, my sketchbook, and, of course pencils.

What does your office space look like?
If I have an office to work, it will be a beautiful place which always stimulates my creation. Besides, I also surround it with an abundance of greenery.

What kind of music do you listen when you are working?
A lot of UK-US songs in my playlist. I often listen to the songs of these three artists: Miley Cyrus, Rihanna and Ed Sheeran. Their music inspires me everyday.

Do you have a way to organize your day to maximize your work?
As a freelancer, my time is quite flexible. I start to work at 10 a.m. andfinish at around 6 p.m., mostly depends on deadlines. I always make me feel comfortable when I’m working, and change music in different specific times to create creation. Music always brings interesting things.

What tips would you give to improve productivity?
– Always listen to customer’s opinions.
– Follow out a concept. It means you have sketched out all options and ideas until you feel satisfied.
– Love your work – it always creates new values.

You’re better than your colleagues to:
– It’s quite hard to say, every designer has their own strengths. As what I see, my strength is designing typographies và branding identities.

What is the best advice anyone has given you?
My old boss once said: A design is of no value if it doesn’t have a concept or meaning.

What is your best tip for saving time?
Respect and keep to the deadline.

What is your routine start and end of the day?
Let me see, checking email after I wake up with a big glass of juice or coffee. And ending the day by hanging out with friends to relax my mind and get more new ideas. Trust me, friendship is definitely good for designing.

Aside from your computer and your phone, what gadget can you not you go without?
It’s my sketchbook! I can’t create any designs without it. I often make it on my own or choose other different sketchbooks. Actually, I have never ever used up any sketch book. I often change to another one when I feel bored. You know, white papers stimulate us to use it in some way.
