Office tale of Andres Bonelli, animation

Published by Leonardo Calcagno

Who are you:
My name is Andres Bonelli, I’m a 3d artist studying animation and looking into specializing in it. Been working as a 3d generalist for a few years while I complete my degree as industrial designer at Universidad Nacional de Cordoba. About a year ago I discovered animation and realised it is what I absolutely love to do so I’m working to learn more and more to turn that into my everyday job.

Your current job:
I work as a 3d generalist in a small games studio, and as a freelance animator during nights and weekends.

In which city are you located?
In Cordoba, Argentina.

A word to define what kind of worker you are:
Spirited

What tools are essential to your life (app, software, etc..)
3ds Max, Maya, Photoshop.

What does your office space look like?
A comfortable simple space that is easy to keep tidy and allows me to focus on what I’m working on.

What kind of music do you listen when you are working?
Black Crowes, Zeppelin, Black Keys, Fu Manchu, SRV, Tommy Bolin, Allman Brothers, Jeff Beck, Ry Cooder, James Burton, and a big etcetera. It varies throughout weeks and months, and usually what I listen to while working are albums I love but don’t pick to sit down and only listen to music without doing other things.

Do you have a way to organize your day to maximize your work?
I don’t organize my day too much, I do get up early, and take breaks to clear the mind while working and to rest the body and sight, that helps me maximize my work everyday.

What tips would you give to improve productivity?
Stay focused and divide the time in hours segments in which you concentrate 100%, then take short breaks away from the computer.

You’re better than your colleagues to:
FPS games 🙂

What is the best advice anyone has given you?
There’s a lot of phrases and life experiences I cherish but I think its the smallest and concise things that keep making noise inside your head and help you move forward, so I’d say it is a video a friend sent which has a few segments of a Ridley Scott interviews with a short but extremely clear message: “Just fucking do it”

What is your best tip for saving time?
Same as above, if you want to do something just fucking do it and don’t waste time.

What is your routine start and end of the day ?
I get up and get ready to go to work quite quickly, my brain wakes up about halfway to the office. After work, at the end of the day, it depends on my plans for each particular afternoon.

Aside from your computer and your phone, what gadget can you not you go without?
I’m not much of a high tech gadget person, to be honest if I realize I forgot my phone at home, I don’t worry much about it; but I do like music and audio a lot so I have many audio gear gadgets that I love.
