Office tale Kijek/Adamski, freelance filmmakers and animators

Published by Leonardo Calcagno

Who are you :
We are Kijek/Adamski – Katarzyna Kijek and Przemyslaw Adamski

Your current job :
freelance filmmakers and animators with a creative edge.

In which city are you located?
Warsaw, Poland

A word to define what kind of worker you are :
versatile

What tools are essential to your life (app, software, etc..)
Adobe After Effects, DSLR, Dragonframe, Cinema 4D

What does your office space look like?
It evolves a lot as we adapt it to all minor projects and almost each of them is different to the previous one. Basically it’s a large desk with two computers against the the wall of a spacious room. We demolished two walls to create an atelier and it is sufficient for chamber projects. For bigger productions we hire other studios.

What kind of music do you listen when you are working ?
When we edit a video we often don’t have much of a choice. It’s constant repetition of scraps of one track for few days in a row.

Do you have a way to organize your day to maximize your work ?
It all depends on the project we are involved in. We have different tasks for different projects. It’s refreshing to be able to change the routine. General rule is that the more urgent matters we have to deal with, the more efficient we are.
On the other hand there are some projects that demand our constant, painstaking labor and there is no way to make it faster.

What tips would you give to improve productivity ?
Quit internet.

You’re better than your colleagues to :
We’re not competitive types.

What is the best advice anyone has given you ?
We don’t have a memory good enough to precisely poit this out.

Make only pieces worth your time. There is no point dedicating work to remake things already done by someone else. The more that we deal with overproductivity and the first issue is always if certain thing is worth doing at all and for what reasons.

What is your best tip for saving time ?
Collect all the data to begin with and think out the whole process upfront. There is no bigger waste of time than revising and amending the project because of previous neglect. Make your client aware of that at the beginning of the work so you could both work in favor of efficiency.

What is your routine start and end of the day ?
It is equally convenient and baneful that we mostly work from our studio at home so we are able to get to work almost at all times. It happens sometimes that we start the day with urgent correspondence and we finish it with rapid file attaching. Yet usually it’s not that hectic and we start with checking the news and we try to end the day with some movie or a book.

Aside from your computer and your phone, what gadget can you not you go without?
Anything we can call a gadget is instantly off our essentials list.
DSLR is pretty basic implement for us beides two mentioned in the question.
