Office tale of Hyemi Jeong, illustrator

Office tale of Hyemi Jeong, illustrator

Published by Leonardo Calcagno

Who are you :
Hyemi Jeong from South Korea

Your current job :
I’m studying English in Canada as an international student. I’ve been here less than a year. I was an engineering student in Korea.

In which city are you located?
Vancouver

A word to define what kind of worker you are :
Illustrator who is having fun with the small everyday objects with cute and creative illustrations.

What tools are essential to your life (app, software, etc..)
Google map, it’s very useful!

What does your office space look like?
Nothing special, because drawing is just my hobby. I’m not professional, because I’ve never studied art.

What kind of music do you listen when you are working ?
Pop songs and Korean hip hop songs

Do you have a way to organize your day to maximize your work ?
To maximize my work, I always draw at night to concentrate what I do well. From when I was younger, I usually do something to do at night, because it’s quieter than during the day and easier to concentrate. To do it, I need to finish what I must do before at night.

What tips would you give to improve productivity ?
If you have a good idea for your works, just do it. If you don’t have it, don’t think about it anymore. Don’t be stressful, enjoy what you do. J

You’re better than your colleagues to :
push forward with a plan what I think, and sometimes I’m more creative than others

What is the best advice anyone has given you ?
Don’t be too proud of yourself although you got a lot of followers on Instagram. It’s just the beginning.

What is your best tip for saving time ?
I make a list of things to do.

What is your routine start and end of the day ?
My school is from 9am to 4pm. After school, I hang out and have dinner with my friends or I go to home early to have dinner with my host family. When I arrive at home, I draw something if I have an idea. Even although I arrive at home lately, I just draw it if I want. And then, after uploading my drawing on Instagram, I go to bed. Actually, my routine of the day in Canada is simpler than in Korea.

Aside from your computer and your phone, what gadget can you not you go without?
Of course, my phone. As I mentioned, I’ve been living here in Vancouver for a few days. I need ‘Google map’ to get wherever what I want to go. In addition, I need my phone as an English dictionary as well. The most important thing is that I need something interesting while I go to school in the morning; It takes me around 40 min in a bus to go to school.
