Office tale of Dimitra Karagianni, art director at The Newtons Laboratory

Published by Leonardo Calcagno

Who are you :
Well, I am Dimitra, I am 26 years old and I live in Athens, Greece. I grew up here, graduated from high school and completed my studies in Graphic Design at Akto Art & Design College.

Your current job :
I am an art director in an advertising agency, The Newtons Laboratory.

In which city are you located?
Athens, Greece.

A word to define what kind of worker you are :
A fun one?

What tools are essential to your life (app, software, etc..)
Of course the ones I use in my job, like Illustrator and Photoshop. But never underestimate the original tools, such as a piece of paper and a pencil.

What does your office space look like?
Usually chaos. Papers, notes, drawings everywhere. Sometimes I clean up my space, and eventually I find all the things I thought I had lost.

What kind of music do you listen when you are working ?
It can be anything. I listen to music all the time and most times I play the same songs on repeat. Today’s repeat is Desperate Youth by Santigold.

Do you have a way to organize your day to maximize your work ?
The only way to organize a bunch of projects is to finish what you started. Never put it on hold to start something else.

What tips would you give to improve productivity ?
Sharpen your mind.

You’re better than your colleagues to :
At nothing and everything. None is better than someone else. My pros can be cons for someone and vice versa.

What is the best advice anyone has given you ?
“You fucking love this? Do it.” When you are very excited about something, when you believe in it, then there is definitely a truth in it. So do it. Try it. Take the chance.

What is your best tip for saving time ?
I can’t save time. I really have no sense of time. I am always late 😉

What is your routine start and end of the day ?
Coffee with my colleagues and a drink with my friends.

Aside from your computer and your phone, what gadget can you not you go without?
Nothing else. Those two are the primary ones. Computer for work, phone for family and friends. All the other gadgets are pretty much unnecessary.
