Office tale of Matthew Brown Fancy, owner of Tiger Clothing, designer and DJ.

Published by Leonardo Calcagno

Who are you :
I own and operate a men and women’s clothing boutique called Fancy Tiger Clothing. I DJ a monthly all-vinyl dance night called Weird Touch. In my down time I thrift for bags and vintage stereos, seek out hard to find vinyl and obsess over
leather jackets I can’t afford. Also, I worship cats.

Your current job :
Boutique owner, designer, buyer and DJ.

In which city are you located?
Denver, CO

A word to define what kind of worker you are :
Unsatisfied. I enjoy never being too comfortable with my performance. It keeps me hungry.

What tools are essential to your life (app, software, etc..)
Photoshop, Spotify, my notebook and a good black ink pen. Despite my reliance on design software I’m a firm believer in sketching by hand and physically writing things down.

What does your office space look like?
Something between Blade Runner and a movie about cyber hacking. My desk sits next to a photo studio, a DJ setup and a band’s practice space.

What kind of music do you listen when you are working ?
Midtempo electronic tunes. Woolfy, Yumi Zouma, Italians do it better comps, etc…

Do you have a way to organize your day to maximize your work ?
I try and take advantage of when my head is the clearest to plan the day ahead. This usually means a cup of coffee at my house around 7:30am as I prioritize my meetings/projects for the day. I usually pick one or two major tasks that must get
accomplished without exception.

What tips would you give to improve productivity ?
Work when you are effective rather than when you’re supposed to be. I’m incredibly productive in the morning and after 3pm. I try and schedule my output around those times. And catch up on sleep. It does wonders.

You’re better than your colleagues because :
I have a lot to loose.

What is the best advice anyone has given you ?
“Think of the thing you are avoiding. That is probably the most important thing to do next”

What is your best tip for saving time ?
Delegate, delegate, delegate. And have an amazing team.

What is your routine start and end of the day ?
Start: A shot of apple cider vinegar mixed with water and agave syrup, breakfast, coffee, plan my schedule for the day and then exercise. End: A hot bath.

Aside from your computer and your phone, what gadget can you not you go without?
Headphones.
