Published by Leonardo Calcagno

Who are you :
Leigh Jeffery

Your current job :
Comic Book illustrator

In which city are you located?
Calgary, Alberta

A word to define what kind of worker you are :
Motivated

What tools are essential to your life (app, software, etc..)
My tablet! Wacom Intuos. Also Photoshop and Manga Studio.

What does your office space look like?
My office is very small. Cluttered would be a good word for it. I like to have a lot of inspirational art around me and reference materials. I also always have a blanket, and there are always a couple empty cans of Diet Coke sitting around. It’s cozy! Not cluttered, I take that back!

What kind of music do you listen when you are working ?
If I need to think, I listen to Classical. But if I’m on autopilot, I listen to Podcasts. Right now I’m binge listening to the Unmistakable Creative.

Do you have a way to organize your day to maximize your work ?
I use an app called Google Keep. It’s a sticky note program for my desktop. I make lists and check off the boxes as work is finished. I’ve tried a lot of softwares, but nothing seems to work quite like sticky notes.

What tips would you give to improve productivity ?
Turn off Skype, Facebook, your phone… basically anything that pings you! Put your music on and put your head down. Let your work suck you in and it’s amazing how quickly you can get tasks done. Set aside a time to deal with email and phone calls and stick to it. Your work time should be sacred, protect it!

You’re better than your colleagues to :
Find the humour is just about any situation. Life is ridiculous.

What is the best advice anyone has given you ?
Success is often found right after the point when you want to give up. Push through.

What is your best tip for saving time ?
Don’t chat during work time. It may be antisocial, but chatting can suck up hours without you even noticing it.

What is your routine start and end of the day ?
Start of the day–Coffee while catching up on the news. Then I walk my dog, shower, answer emails and phone calls. Organize my tasks for the day on Google Keep, then I get started.
End of the day– Social media maintenance, sketchbook practice, then family time.

Aside from your computer and your phone, what gadget can you not you go without?
My ipad. I read a lot, and my ipad lets me read in the dark without disturbing my husband. I’d be a sad insomniac without it.
