What does your office space look like?
Very clean and minimal. I hate clutter, so I go out of my way to make sure it’s a clutter free environment. My 6 year old English Bulldog is usually snoring next to me and his toys always seem to creep into my space from time to time.
What kind of music do you listen when you are working ?
I quite enjoy listening to rap while I work. Most friends probably think I’d be listening to The National or other bands considered to be “Dad rock”, but it’s Rap that really increases my productivity.
Do you have a way to organize your day to maximize your work?
I wake up, eat a big breakfast and then usually hit the gym around lunchtime. This breaks up my day so I am equally productive in the afternoon as I am in the morning.
What tips would you give to improve productivity ?
Avoid YouTube if you have pressing deadlines. I can lose hours of precious time if I fall down the YouTube rabbit hole.
You’re better than your colleagues to :
I am probably better at time management. I am a little OCD when it comes to schedules, budgets and anything to do with managing time. It probably means I should focus more on producing than creative.
What is the best advice anyone has given you ?
When in the startup phase of Wonderlust, I reached out to Jay Grandin (one of the Co-founders of Giant Ant) for advice. He told me to put love into my work, don’t be a dick and never miss a deadline. Thanks Jay. That helped. 🙂
What is your best tip for saving time ?
As I said before, avoid YouTube, as well as Facebook, Pinterest or any other website that will eat away at your precious time. If you are going to surf the net, visit dribbble or Behance so you can at least find inspiration.
What is your routine start and end of the day ?
I wake up, check email, set client meetings for the day and then check in with my freelancers to ensure all projects are on schedule. After I’ve checked that off my list, I take my dog for a walk and then come back to my workstation to animate or storyboard. Towards the end of the day I do a little bit of networking/business development and handle any paperwork. Typically I oversee about 3-4 projects at a time so my day usually continues into late evening.
