Office tale of Sam Lane, co-founder and creative director at Alphabet

Published by Leonardo Calcagno

Who are you :

 Sam Lane

Your current job :

I’m the Co-founder and Creative Director at Alphabet, a UK-based Design Studio that specializes in Branding and Art Direction

In which city are you located?

We’re currently located in Leeds, UK.

A word to define what kind of worker you are :

Perfectionist

What tools are essential to your life (app, software, etc..)

The most important tools I carry with me at all times are my Brain, a Notebook and a Pen.

What does your office space look like?

It’s nice and bright, white walls, wooden floorboards and plants! Lots of plants! We’re located within a former Brewery which has been converted into a Contemporary Arts Centre so we love the fact that we are constantly surrounded by creative people and culture.

What kind of music do you listen when you are working ?

We literally listen to everything you could ever think of! Ranging from 70’s punk rock, funk and soul to 80’s ballad and 90’s hip-hop right the way through to super modern atmospheric chill-wave and everything in between.

Do you have a way to organize your day to maximize your work ?

We always hold team meetings first thing on a Monday and try to plan our week out best we can. Our schedule is usually jam packed so we keep a strict calendar and try to stick to it. As boring as that sounds, it’s good to be organized to maximise efficiency.

What tips would you give to improve productivity ?

Write lists for everything. Even if its something silly. The more things you write, the more things you can tick off and get done!

You’re better than your colleagues to :

All of my colleagues hold different skills and bring something totally unique to the table which is what makes our agency such an exciting environment to work in.

What is the best advice anyone has given you ?

Never stop creating.

What is your best tip for saving time?

Don’t procrastinate, be pro-active and don’t sit on a decision for too long.

What is your routine start and end of the day ?

I don’t really have a set routine but i’ll more than likely be checking emails over a nice hot cup of tea.

Aside from your computer and your phone, what gadget can you not you go without?

I wouldn’t say i’m a gadget kind of guy. Is a notebook a gadget?
