Beau’s Oktoberfest Mix Pack returns with 4 beers brand-new to LCBO

Published by Leonardo Calcagno

(VANKLEEK HILL – Sept. 8, 2016)  For craft beer fans who can’t wait for the 8 annual Beau’s Oktoberfest – happening September 23 and 24 in Vankleek Hill – a new mix pack of 4 beers brewed for the festival might be the next best thing. LCBOs across Ontario will be selling the Beau’s Oktoberfest Mix Pack this fall, which includes One Ping Only Baltic porter, Return of the Mumme medieval ale, Vienna-style Lager from the Farm Table series, and Ginger Wolf, a hopfenweisse brewed with ginger.

One Ping Only is dark and rich, with thick, chewy malts, and aromas of chocolate, raisins and caramel. Barley and rye malts, oats, and some Polish Marynka hops create layers of complexity in flavour and mouthfeel. The finish is dry with a slight coffee character. Baltic porters share some commonalities with Russian Imperial Stouts, brewed strong to last long voyages across the sea.

Return of the Mumme is a medieval-era ale brewed with a bouquet of botanicals including Fair Trade organic black tea from India, Sri Lankan cloves and a blend of Egyptian spices including caraway seed, marjoram and thyme. The beer is spice-forward with balancing residual malt sweetness. Initial aromas of gingerbread and malt, and black licorice rise up from a subtle traditional hop aroma. Mumme is an historical beer style that shares characteristics with a modern German altbier.

The newest creation in the Beau’s Farm Table series, Vienna-style Lager pours deep orange in colour with a frothy white head. The aroma is bready with a mild citrus undertone. The German malt flavours are suggestive of bread crust, while a classic hop character provides a clean counterbalance. The lager finish is dry and light-bodied. Beau’s Farm Table Series are sessionable beers inspired by tradition and brewed true to a classic style.

Ginger Wolf is a “ginger” edition of Beau’s popular hopfenweisse Wag the Wolf. It’s brewed with organic ginger, late-addition hopped with organic New Zealand varieties, and fermented with a traditional Hefeweizen yeast. It is hazy and pale gold in colour, with lively carbonation. Aromas are predominant ginger with undertones of banana, clove, papaya, mango and citrus on the nose. Spicy and fruity flavours follow, with a slightly dry finish and mild gingery heat.

The 2016 Beau’s Oktoberfest Mix Pack is available this fall at LCBO stores across Ontario. In Ottawa, it is available for home delivery via BYBO (www.BYBO.ca). It is also available for purchase directly from the Vankleek Hill craft brewery. All 4 beers included in the mix pack will also be available on tap at Beau’s Oktoberfest, to be held September 23 and 24, 2016. The upcoming festival will feature a total of 16 beers from Beau’s Brewery (the most in festival history), as well as sampling of 40+ craft beers from across the province in the “Craft Haus” tent. Beau’s signature fundraising event, Oktoberfest has raised more than $430,000 for community and charity to date. Tickets are on sale now at www.beausoktoberfest.ca.
