I’m Eda Kaban. I was born and raised in Turkey with a great passion for drawing and art. I eventually ventured off to the States to study illustration. I lived in San Francisco for almost 10 years and I currently call Oakland home. I work full time as a freelance illustrator creating children’s books, advertising and editorial illustration.

Illustrator

Oakland, CA

A word to define what kind of worker you are :

Passionate

What tools are essential to your life (app, software, etc..)

Photoshop and Wacom

What does your office space look like?

It’s cozy, petite and cluttered. All my mess is some what organized. My desk is in front of the window from where I can see the Oakland Hills and the fig tree in my front yard. I also get to watch the doggies of the neighbourhood walking by all day long while I draw. There is a lot of to-do lists, post-it notes and monthly charts around on the walls to stay on top of things but it’s questionable how much it works.

What kind of music do you listen when you are working ?

I mostly listen to my favorite podcasts, indie, jazz and world music.

Do you have a way to organize your day to maximize your work ?

I have a schedule that I created for myself that is built around my most productive hours and I stick with it everyday. I start work early, 7-8am, work 8-10 hours a day depending on the work load and I call it a day 6-7pm and head to my climbing gym where I reset it all.

What tips would you give to improve productivity ?

Don’t forget to spend time NOT drawing. Go out, live a little and get inspired.

What is the best advice anyone has given you ?

To keep at it. It works.

What is your best tip for saving time ?

Don’t procrastinate!! And learn to multitask.

What is your routine start and end of the day ?

It always starts with coffee and ends with reading my book.

Aside from your computer and your phone, what gadget can you not you go without?

My tablet!!!
