Office tale of Edo, managing and creative director at Mother Volcano

Published by Leonardo Calcagno

Who are you :

People call me Edo and I’m the founder of Mother Volcano

Your current job :

Managing and creative director at Mother Volcano

In which city are you located?

Porto, Portugal

A word to define what kind of worker you are :

Tenacious

What tools are essential to your life (app, software, etc..)

Paper and pen/pencil. Affinity Designer, Google Apps, Sublime Text, Skype, Slack, Podio and more recently Lingo.

What does your office space look like?

Something in between a dacha and a sauna – it’s all made of wood. It wouldn’t look strange to see us working naked only with a towel around our waist. Not saying we do.

What kind of music do you listen when you are working ?

Silence works best for me but when I’m on chop chop mode there’s nothing better than minimal house.

We also have a studio playlist with a song for every occasion. I would be too embarrassed to tell you which though.

Do you have a way to organize your day to maximize your work ?

Yes and it’s mostly dictated by the nature of the project we are working on at the moment. A project comes in, we figure out the best approach and plan the week for it. Different projects require different setups and even me to work on different roles.

What tips would you give to improve productivity ?

Know yourself and ignore all the expert advise on your Linkedin wall. Really.

You’re better than your colleagues to :

 have ideas under pressure.

What is the best advice anyone has given you ?

Be straightforward, be clear, be concise. I found that good communication saves you — and the client — lots of time.

What is your best tip for saving time ?

Be honest, be upfront, be concise. I found that good communication saves you — and the client — lots of time.

What is your routine start and end of the day ?

Wake up early before the emails start falling on my inbox. Plan the day and try to follow the script. I review the day during the evenings and do some deep thinking about what to do next.

Aside from your computer and your phone, what gadget can you not you go without?

Nothing else. I try to be as spartan as possible. Hate the idea of being too dependent on gadgets and stuff. I think I’d be a good survivalist or maybe I’ve simply watched too much Walking Dead.
