Office tale of Ákos Polgardi, graphic designer

Published by Leonardo Calcagno

Who are you :

My name is Ákos.

Your current job :

 I’m a graphic designer.

In which city are you located?

Budapest, Hungary.

A word to define what kind of worker you are:

Simple.

What tools are essential to your life (app, software, etc..)

Olfa Heavy Duty Ratchet-Lock Utility Knife (L-1), paper samples, colour charts, Adobe CC.

What does your office space look like?

Less and less spacious.

What kind of music do you listen when you are working ?

It’s a constant battle with my studio mates, but when my turn comes it’s usually something between Britney Spears and Chet Baker.

Do you have a way to organize your day to maximize your work ?

I realized over the years that I’m more productive before I eat.

What tips would you give to improve productivity ?

Get out of bed.

You’re better than your colleagues to :

 Ping pong.

What is the best advice anyone has given you ?

I’m not sure this counts as advice given to me, but Ludwig Wittgenstein chose as a motto for his Philosophical Investigations the following quote: “It is the nature of progress that it appears much greater than it really is”. I think that’s really true of pretty much everything. Things just look bigger from close up.

What is your best tip for saving time ?

 Less Facebook.

What is your routine start and end of the day ?

If I sleep at my girlfriend’s place, she makes the morning coffee and brings it to bed. If it’s my place, I do the same. After coffee I take a shower, put on clothes and cycle to work. I like to read paper-based books before I go to sleep.

Aside from your computer and your phone, what gadget can you not you go without?

 My bicycle
