Who are you :
I am Hernán Ramos. Honduran illustrator, musician, graphic designer and content creator for Life in lines.
Your current job :
Graphic designer and illustrator currently working at el taier DDB.
In which city are you located?
Guatemala City, GT
A word to define what kind of worker you are :
Melomaniac
What tools are essential to your life (app, software, etc..)
I mostly use Illustrator, Photoshop and my reliable pen and paper for sketching. Music based, other than my guitar, when inspiration strikes I record everything in voice notes to catch the essence of the moment.
What does your office space look like?
I can say I have two workspaces that separate my work life and my artistic life. My workspace is a very tidy place, which I share with other graphic designers and highly creative people. Currently located in the heart of a cultural, artistic and hipster site in Guatemala City.My artistic space is what you may call the home of a musician/illustrator filled with music discs, books, toys and miscellaneous items.
What kind of music do you listen when you are working ?
I’m generally known as a nostalgic person and that’s what really defines what I listen to while I work. Part of my playlist starts with The Beatles, 90’s Britpop, The Stokes and some alt-country like Clem snide. But what really indulges my creative side since childhood is the rock/indie/alternative Mexican music like Jumbo, Pastilla, Chetes, Enjambre, Siddhartha and Disidente.
Do you have a way to organize your day to maximize your work ?
I don’t have a specific way of doing things; it’s quite basic for me. During my office hours I always finish my tasks in time but it’s during the night that all the creative process takes place with ideas I’ve come up with during the day o previous days.
What tips would you give to improve productivity ?
It’s important to feel comfortable in your workspace because if you don’t you will never be productive.
You’re better than your colleagues to :
I can’t say I’m better than my colleagues at work; we all complement each other so we can be effective and a better team. Above everything else I would say that as a person I’m better illustrator then I am a musician, but I am a better musician than a graphic designer.
What is the best advice anyone has given you ?
Be a good person, talent isn’t all that defines who you are.
What is your best tip for saving time ?
If you focus entirely on a project, you will come to the realization that you can complete it in less time than you expected.
What is your routine start and end of the day ?
Basically I start and end my day listening to music.
Aside from your computer and your phone, what gadget can you not go without?
Ipod, Wacom tablet, but over all I can’t go without my guitar.
