Interview with the team at Halisten Studio

Published by Leonardo Calcagno

Who are you :

We are Halisten Studio, were classmates and good friends at the university. After the Masters degree we founded our own design studio.

Your current job :

We are five freelance graphic designers. We wanted to work together not only because we like eachother, we think the continuous consultation results better work. When we get a complex project, we are able to complement each other very well, working on the different parts of the task.

In which city are you located?

Budapest, capital of Hungary.

A word to define what kind of worker you are :

We love to do everything related to graphic design and typography. Illustration is one of our main fields, we are specialized in traditional methods in manufacturing and design. We take our time with projects, because we think quality is more important than quickness.

What tools are essential to your life (app, software, etc..)

The coffee maker.

What does your office space look like?

Our studio is in a cozy office,on the first floor of a typical tenement house of Budapest. It is a bigger one-space room with white walls, and a huge window. We have quite big tables to work on, but we make space for a printer, a light table, a cutting machine, a couch/bed, an armchair, a hula hoop, and many many plants.

What kind of music do you listen when you are working ?

We like to use Spotify. One of us (Olivér) makes wonderful playlists for every mood we have. There are playlists for different times of the day, but you can find festive, good mood, rainy, sexy, funny, and crazy ones too. That’s the best way to describe it, if you want to know more precisely, search user ‘csepella’.

Do you have a way to organize your day to maximize your work ?

We make to do lists, but our daily routine is quite free and changing all the time.

What tips would you give to improve productivity ?

Always revise each other’s work.

You’re better than your colleagues to :

We don’t have colleagues.

What is the best advice anyone has given you ?

One of our teachers used to say ‘Only those can work well who know how to rest well’, this is very important.

What is your best tip for saving time ?

We distribute projects between ourselves, sometimes more people work on the same task. For each project we have only one of us instead of five to handle all the communication.

What is your routine start and end of the day ?

We begin, proceed, and finish work with coffee.

Aside from your computer and your phone, what gadget can you not you go without?

Our pocket knives, and crocodile shaped scissors.
