Hello, my name is Ritaban Das and I’ve been working in Animation industry as a Storyboard artist/Character Designer/Illustrator for last 7 years.

I’m currently working as a Senior Storyboard artist/Character Designer/Art Director in an Animation studio here in India.

Passionate…and focused.
What tools are essential to your life (app, software, etc..)
Photoshop is a MUST! Other than that Artstation, Pinterest, Behance, Vimeo, Instagram are some of the websites/apps where I check other artist’s work.
What does your office space look like?
My office work space where I sit is small and clean. I sit along with the other storyboard artists.
What kind of music do you listen when you are working ?
It depends. I listen to a wide range of music while working, starts from electronic to heavy metal. Currently listening to Matt Wertz’s new album “Gun Shy”. Its gooooood! Also I listen to a lot of podcasts.
What tips would you give to improve productivity ?
Just keep your eyes and mind open. Read books, watch movies, listen to music, take photographs, interact with people. Inspiration can comes from anywhere. Try to absorb everything. Oh and PRACTICE!
You’re better than your colleagues to :
I don’t know. Everybody is equally talented! Maybe in cracking bad jokes?! It might have a chance.
What is the best advice anyone has given you ?
One of my senior once said to me that not to worry,there will ALWAYS be someone better than you. Just be happy and have fun with what you are doing. That motivated me really.
What is your routine start and end of the day ?
I usually spend most of my time in the office. My day starts with doing storyboard or designing characters or checking animatics of the others. It completely depends upon the day’s schedule. I drink a lot of coffee in between. On weekend I try to stay home as much as possible, spend time doing sketches or illustrations,watching movies or playing guitar. If I get any freelance in between, I get glued in front of my computer.
Aside from your computer and your phone, what gadget can you not you go without?
Those are pretty much everything to me…yeah. I’m not at all a tech savvy guy.
Also I’m a singer/songwriter in an Electro-acoustic/Ambient music project called “Simplers’ Project” and We’ve making music for nearly two years. We’ve released an EP called “Waves” in last year and got a good response. Currently we are working on our debut full length album called “Into the Woods”. We’ve released two singles from it.
