L’Estupenda, organic craft beer

L’Estupenda, organic craft beer

Published by Leonardo Calcagno

Who are you and your current job?My name’s Anton Sabariego. I studied Social Anthropology, then I started working in a train factory as an Industrial Technician and I ended up starting my own brewery L’Estupenda along with two friends. I guess I like switching it up every once in a while and I truly believe all these different things I’ve done have had a positive impact in what L’Estupenda is now. Currently, my life is only about the brewery. Let’s see what happens next…;-)

What was the inspiration behind your brewery? I guess it was the same as everyone: the love for the good beer. In the specific case of our brewery, we wanted to create gastronomic beers, because of we really thing beer and food are a match as good as wine and food. Even though, we’re also working on recipes more orientated to beer geeks. We might consider ourselves “foodies”, but, as I said, we are mostly beer lovers!!

Can you give us a tour of your beer scene? It started a bit late if you compare it with other countries like Italy or France, but we all are learning very fast and there are already many world class breweries in Catalonia and in Spain. We are all friends and there’s a big sense of belonging to a community among all breweries, so we try to help each other in order to do the most important thing: brew good beers and spread the word!!

What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a brewery?Well, so many advice could be given, but the most important two are: 1. don’t skip breakfast, every day in a brewery is a new challenge and you’ll need lots of energy to make everything work and 2. drink your first beer of the day always after all important things in the brewery are already done.
