Alexandra Mercier, artist, designer and photographer

Alexandra Mercier, artist, designer and photographer

Published by Leonardo Calcagno

Who are you:

Some call me an artist, others, a designer or photographer… I, on the other hand, like to think that I am a visual storyteller, a conceptual mind, and a curious spirit. Still figuring it out.

Your current job:

I currently work for Pagecloud as the Content and Theme Designer. My role is to create website themes that appeal to our users. I also work as a freelance graphic designer from home.

In which city are you located?

I am located in the nation’s capital, Ottawa, Ontario. 2017 Should be an exciting year as we celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary! I have many projects in mind and cannot wait to share these with everyone. Please, stay tuned!

A word to define what kind of worker you are:

Creative

What tools are essential to your life (app, software, etc..)

As of right now, I always carry my laptop, camera, and cellphone on me. In terms of software, I basically live off of the Adobe Creative Suite, mostly Photoshop and Illustrator. I also can’t live without the Instagram app as I use it to search the web for inspiration and share my photography @leximercier_.

What does your office space look like?

I love to use the floor as my moodboard. I can lay out my different sketches, inspo pieces, and other assets. There’s often a bunch of post-its just lying around. For the most part, my desk is usually pretty organized.

What kind of music do you listen when you are working?

If I need to get things done, I usually listen to dance or hip hop music to get in the zone.

Do you have a way to organize your day to maximize your work?

To do lists are always great. That explains the post-it notes everywhere!

What tips would you give to improve productivity?

Give your brain a break and step away from the computer once in a while. I try to spend as much time as I can outdoors or traveling, as I find it is the best way to feed the mind with new creative views and ideas. Oh, good coffee always helps!

You’re better than your colleagues to:

Eat at all you can eat sushi nomnom.

What is the best advice anyone has given you?

If a job scares you, then it’s probably worth doing. That’s the only way to grow.

What is your best tip for saving time?

Always ask your clients what they don’t want. It helps narrow down the options.

What is your routine start and end of the day?

Got to have that peanut butter in the morning, work all day and freelance a bit in the evening. It’s always fun to end the week by having a drink with colleagues and friends.

Aside from your computer and your phone, what gadget can you not you go without?

I can’t go without my camera. I love wandering around town and simply finding new spots of the city to shoot. It’s also a great way for me to clear my head, get inspired and explore. My GoPro is pretty awesome too!
