Daniel Petit, creative director & illustrator

Published by Leonardo Calcagno

Who are you:

Im Daniel Petit, Dominican, Creative Director, Illustrator

Your current job:

I just started a design shop called Nomad SDQ with a friend.

I work as branding, designer, illustrator, app development, and Brand management

In which city are you located?

Santo Domingo

A word to define what kind of worker you are:

Ferocious!

What tools are essential to your life (app, software, etc..)

Photoshop, Illustrator, my iPad and my Wacom tablet

What does your office space look like?

Messy when working from home, but we also rent a shared office space. Which is pretty neat.

What kind of music do you listen when you are working?

Funky stuff like Jamiroquai, I like mac DeMarco a lot… but mainly I’ve been listening to podcasts “last podcast on the left” and “give me an answer”

Do you have a way to organize your day to maximize your work?

For starters, I have someone who organizes and schedules everything for me, I’m very bad at organizing stuff, I think prioritizing is the most important thing you should do starting your workday, I try my best getting my priorities straight so I can execute without problems.

What tips would you give to improve productivity?

First of all don’t get too comfortable. Secondly, think about the people you live for, think about who is ultimately going to feel proud about your stuff or disappointed by it… Remember the MONEY which is or will be in play. Block all distractions for at least a couple of hours a day… no youtube, no games no more than 10 minutes of daydreaming! if you are not feeling it… take a hike, set your mind, but be realistic, don’t fool yourself. HUSTLE!

You’re better than your colleagues:

Pretty hard to think about something I’m better than my colleagues at. Santo Domingo is FILLED with amazing talented creatives!

What is the best advice anyone has given you?

basically to take chances while I still can. in fighting sports, there is a saying “don’t leave it to the judges” I believe in doing absolutely everything you can imagine to make your ideas happen.

What is your best tip for saving time?

organization is your best friend for time-saving, that’s why I pay someone to do it for me. if you are cheap and don’t want to pay anyone then be committed to the organization. Know what you have to do and execute. don’t just set deadlines…MEET your deadlines. Prioritize, Sketch, Execute, Correct.

What is your routine start and end of the day?

Emails, Coffee + Youtube, Work, Eat something, Coffee,

Work Work Work, Sleep. lately, I’ve been trying to do a better job at networking spending a couple of hours at it, making contacts, friends, asking questions.

Aside from your computer and your phone, what gadget can you not you go without?

My 12” iPad pro, apple pencil and my ATH-M50x Headphones
