What was the inspiration behind your brewery?
Parallel 49 is about brewing beers that are inspired by beer styles all over the world with a west coast influence. All the founders have a homebrewing background where you can brew any beer you can dream up and we’ve translated that to a large scale.
Can you give us a tour of your beer scene?
Vancouver has two waves of brewery openings. The first wave of breweries opened in the late 90’s and we are now in the second wave that took off in the early 2010’s. There are now over 25 breweries in Vancouver and the tasting room model has really filled in the neighborhood pub gap that was missing in a lot of areas. It’s a great time for beer drinkers.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a brewery?
Find a rich person or multiple people who are fairly well off. Also, you have to enjoy working too much.
