The art “fiesta”
46 galleries, 35,000 visitors, the 14 most prestigious art centres of the capital, national and international collectors… all participating together in one of the most important Gallery Weekends in Europe.
Apertura Madrid Gallery Weekend is the celebration that turns Madrid into a worldwide capital of contemporary art from September 14 to 16.
Every September, during one weekend, almost 50 madrilenian galleries inaugurate at the same time with special programming and hours, and with the complicity of the main museums and art centres, which schedule private visits and special actions (Reina Sofía Museum, Thyssen Museum, Fundación Mapfre, Lázaro Galdiano Museum, Fundación Telefónica, ABC Museum, Centro Dos de Mayo…).
Apertura Madrid Gallery Weekend attracts to our city reputable collectors, experts and professionals from all over the world, allowing a tour throughout all disciplines: installation, photography, painting, sculpture… and throughout all periods, from great masters of the avant-garde, to contemporary artists, through the latest from the youngest emerging creations. It is the prelude of exhibitions scheduled by Madrid galleries throughout the year: more than 300 by around 400 artists.
During three days, the most important cultural event after the summer turns the streets of Madrid into a large museum of contemporary art, opened to the general public and for free, and places the capital as a worldwide reference.
For the purpose of bringing contemporary art to all sectors, in collaboration with ARCOmadrid, guided visits with experts are also organized on all galleries during Apertura Madrid Gallery Weekend to introduce the visitor to the latest creations.
Arte_Madrid
This great festival is organized by the 46 galleries that make up the association of galleries Arte_Madrid, and which regularly participate in the most prestigious international fairs, such as Art Basel, Frieze, The Armory Show, FIAC, Artissima, Art Basel Miami… where they act as ambassadors for Spanish art on the international art scene.
