A Closer Look At Millennials’ Style Habits

A Closer Look At Millennials’ Style Habits

Published by Programme B

When it comes to fashion and choosing what is trendy and what is not, who do you think holds the biggest power? No, it is not the president of your country or any of the fashion designers. In fact, millennials, as the biggest consumer group, dictate the trends and decide what we will wear this season. Nowadays they are the most appreciated fashion gurus and if you want to be stylish you need to pay attention to what they say.  Not to worry, their style habits are not that complicated. Here are several rules millennials live by.

Secondhand stores are gold mines

Don’t get them wrong, millennials don’t mind splurging on a good quality item. However, they are also huge fans of thrift shops. Not that long ago, people were embarrassed to admit that they shop in second-hand stores. Nowadays, the tables have turned and even most popular vloggers love bragging on YouTube about amazing items they found in thrift stores for only a couple of dollars or less. However, this isn’t so weird if you think about it. After all, millennials are all about originality and authenticity, and these stores sell items that cannot be found in high-end shops. So, if you want to stay trendy on a budget just do what millennials do.

Minimalism is the new black

Fashion, architecture, interior design, and art – it seems like minimalism is everywhere these days. Millennials love everything that is minimal, so if you want to be stylish, don’t go overboard with patterns and colors. Of course, you can spice things up a notch, but make sure you do it with just one item. For example, you can wear a colorful shirt or jacket with leopard print, just make sure everything else you have on is quite minimal. But why is minimalism this important to generation Y? Well, as some experts have figured out, to millennials the whole world is more reachable and they travel a lot. Implementing everything they like into their style would be impossible (can you imagine the size of that closet?!) so they stick to a minimal wardrobe.

Taking care of Mother Earth is a must

Millennials do have their flaws, but one thing we have to admit is that they as a generation they are the most environmentally conscious group. They don’t just buy items they consider pretty or cool. Before they make the purchase they want to make sure that the clothes are organic and eco-friendly. Millennials are legit game changers and because of them, more and more brands are focusing on the production of eco-friendly attire.

Get your money’s worth

In this day and age when fast fashion is running the industry, a lot of people are buying low-quality clothes that don’t cost much and do not last long either. However, millennials are more interested in getting their money’s worth. They would rather spend more money on a quality item that they will use for years to come than buy something that will fall apart after a few months.

Athleisure is the solution to most clothing problems

How many times have you went to work, then ran home to change, went to the gym and changed once more just so you could be dressed appropriately when you go clubbing? We have all been there, but it seems that millennials have found the solution to this problem. Its majesty, athleisure, combines sports and leisure clothes and it allows you to easily transform your wardrobe to suit your needs.  For example, a cute dress and sporty shoes have become a great outfit option, while jeans and a T-shirt will help you blend in anywhere, whether you are at work, shopping, clubbing or walking through the park.

Millennials have a strong voice, and they are not afraid to use it. With their firm beliefs, they have the power to make or break a brand and they have shown us that the way we dress can change the world and help the environment.
