Published by Programme B

Even though bingo is mostly played in the UK, there is no doubt that the popularity of bingo in the USA is also at a high level. Not only is the game played by millions of people but it’s also reported that it’s the birthplace of the modern bingo.

Today, the game has advanced so much that it’s even available to play online. US players can register and enjoy these games at the comfort of their home or while on the road. Since we mentioned that bingo is adored by millions of Americans, we decided to give you a bit of a backstory as to how it all began and where the game stands right now.

The Beginnings

Even though the traditional bingo origins in Europe in countries like Italy and France, the modern bingo reached the US market during the 1920s. The original name of the game was Beano, but some stories say that after a man won a game, instead of shouting Beano, he shouted Bingo, thus the new name was born.

After the citizens got familiar with the game, the popularity of bingo in the USA rose to fame very quickly. Edwin Lowe was the person who named the game Bingo. He, along with a math instructor from Columbia University created the game that is now known as 75-ball bingo. By the 1930s, thousands of bingo games were played each week and the game gained massive popularity after a New England church used the game to raise funds.

Modern Era

With the rise of the Internet and its services, bingo games were revolutionized and made available online. The first known bingo game surfaced in 1996 and was called Bingo Zone. Today, there are millions of people across the 50 states in the USA that enjoy online bingo daily. Statistics have shown that over 90% of the players are older than 50. Another interesting fact about this game is that bingo is the only game of luck where the majority of players are female – around 70% to be more precise.

Online bingo offers many bonuses, rewards, availability, and simple gameplay, which is why many people prefer this type over the traditional bingo. Right now, the popularity of bingo in the USA has never been greater and it is adored by both men and women. Their revenue counts in the billions and reports suggest that it will continue to rise.
