4 Services Dental Practices Offer

Published by Programme B

Are you avoiding the dentist because you don’t think that they will offer the services that you need? Do you want to know more about what dentists offer and how they can help you?

Everyone has a basic idea of what a dentist does, but not everyone knows exactly what they do or just how much they have to offer their clients. People never know when they should be visiting a specialist or if they could just go to a dentist for their dental needs.

If you are thinking about going to a dentist, or haven’t been to one in a while, here is a list of services that dentists offer to their customers, and how they can help them with all of their dental needs.

Orthodontic Services

One of the first things that people imagine when they think about going to the dentist, is getting their teeth straightened or getting braces. This is one of the most common procedures that dental practices, such as the University of Alberta dental clinic, have to offer.

The practice of straightening your teeth and jaw falls under that of orthodontic services. Typically, orthodontic services are practiced by a dentist who is a licensed orthodontist, but these are also found in most dental practices.

Included in orthodontic services, you will find the correction of overbites, underbites, crossbites, misaligned teeth, and more. A lot of these services include getting some kind of fixture in your mouth such as braces, retainers, headgear, bridges, palate spacers, and more.

This is a physical change that happens in your mouth but they are all incredibly effective and produce good results.

Pediatric Dental Services

While this may not be common knowledge, you should actually be taking your children to the dentist when their first tooth starts coming out. Typically, this will be around the age of 6 months.

Essentially this is the dental version of a pediatrician – they are dentists for small children. Typically, they know how to work with younger children as well as have a better understanding of the makeup and structure of a child’s mouth.

If your dental practice is frequented by a lot of younger children, the chances are that they offer pediatric dental services that are uniquely designed to suit your small child and allow them to have a better experience.

Cosmetic Dentistry Services

Something that is becoming more popular as time goes by, is cosmetic dental surgery. Although these are typically a lot more expensive and not covered by insurance, cosmetic dental services often make people feel a lot more confident and comfortable in their skin.

The most common procedure in this practice is teeth whitening or teeth bleaching. This is a process that makes your teeth whiter while brightening smiles. Other examples of this kind of practice are when people get veneers, crowns, teeth shaping, and even dental implants.

The popularity of these services means they are starting to become more widely available at dental offices around the globe. It is important to remember that these services can end up being quite pricey.

Diagnostic and Preventative Dental Services

Last but not least, we have perhaps the most common of services, which are that of diagnostic and preventative dental services which should be used before needing to go to an emergency dental visit. Edmonton emergency dental, for example, is a place you would need to visit in case something bad happens because preventative measures weren’t taken. It is commonly said that you should visit the dentist once a year for a general check-up to see if everything is fine and make sure you don’t have any cavities or underlying dental issues, and then twice a year or every 6 months, you should go for a full dental cleaning. Which is a deep clean of your mouth and teeth. This is something that you will find at any dental practice you look for. These services are designed to help with dental health and encourage the prevention of problems later on down the line. This typically includes x-rays, cleanings, oral exams, and more.

This is something that should not be missed out on and you should always make a plan to have your yearly dental checkup, just for preventative measures. There is no harm in visiting the dentist, even if nothing is wrong, just to make sure
