iGaming: A Thorough Explanation

iGaming: A Thorough Explanation

Published by Programme B

Gambling is a human pastime that goes back all the way to the earliest forms of human civilization. Since the Ancient world, men have played dice games on which they wagered a fair amount of their goods and funds. Throughout history, gambling has endured banning, legalization, illegalization, and various regulations, some of which still exist today. However, the one thing that remains true is that gambling evolves to better suit the environment.

Today, we inhabit what is largely referred to as the Information Age. It is the era of computers, cyberspace, and the internet. So, understandably, casinos have adapted to the times. Most gamblers nowadays are registered with online real money casinos, which one could access simply by clicking an app or website on their smartphone. This new form of online gambling is largely referred to as “iGaming” by most gamblers. So, in this article, we would like to go over everything you could possibly need to know about iGaming, including how to find good websites, what games you can play, and more.

Licensing!

The first thing you need to know about is licensing. You see, when online casinos first hit the scene, back in the late 1990s, they had a somewhat unsavory reputation. And unfortunately, it was well earned. At the time, there was nobody actually governing these websites, which led to many of them being unfairly stacked against the players. Some were even outright scams.

Luckily, that is no longer the case in 2022. In the 2000s, when online gambling became more popular, governments responded in two ways: they banned it, or legalized it. Ultimately, today, legalizing it proved to be the better choice, as it led to many websites becoming legitimate, governed, and licensed by notable licensing companies. The best licenses today are those issued by Caribbean countries, like Curacao, however, you can also find excellent licenses in Europe, most notably, Malta and Gibraltar.

What Games Dominate?

As is the case in land-based gambling, the game that dominates the iGaming scene is slots. And there is nothing surprising about this. Slots are easy, fun, and can help you kill some time. Best of all, many online slots come with player bonuses that are now a staple of online casinos and betting sites. But it wouldn’t be much fun if slots are all you could play.

And luckily, most gambling websites today offer a wide library of games to choose from. Blackjack is of course incredibly popular. As many savvy gamblers might already know, blackjack is the game that has the best odds out of any casino game. So, understandably it is just as popular online as it is in brick-and-mortar establishments. Roulette is also widely played. And of course, what casino would be complete without a few poker games?

What are Live Casinos?

From the name, you might already have gathered what live casinos are. But just in case you are new to iGaming, we will explain anyways. Live casinos are currently a staple of iGaming. If you are looking for a good gambling site, it will most likely feature the live option. You see, a live casino involves a living dealer, playing the game in real-time on a livestream. The players are all participating through either voice or text chat.

Livestreaming is a hit new thing, gaining huge popularity online thanks in large part to websites like Twitch, TikTok, and YouTube. A part of the joy of live gambling is that it perfectly simulates a casino experience, making players feel as if they are in an actual establishment, while still making it a lot more convenient. The most popular live games right now include blackjack, roulette, poker, and baccarat.
