Another great year for the Niagara College’s Teaching Brewery

Niagara College’s Teaching Brewery concludes 2023 by adding more accolades to its impressive track record;

  • In July, it was named grand champion at the 2023 U.S. Open College Beer Championship, with all five entries winning awards.
  • At the Ontario Brewing Awards in December, the Teaching Brewery secured a gold medal for Beer 101 Bock and a silver medal for Beer 101 Strong Ale.
  • Both award-winning brews are part of the renowned Beer 101 series, known for its national and international accolades.
  • Brewmaster Professor Jon Downing expressed pride in the consistent success of students and graduates, emphasizing the program’s excellence.
  • The Ontario Brewing Awards showcased the achievements of NC Brewmaster graduates, many of whom are now working in the industry.
  • Aaron Spinney, a historic Brewmaster graduate, leads Merit Brewing Co. in Hamilton, which received gold for its wine hybrid, Happy Place.
  • Christian Hand, a 2017 Brewmaster graduate and Head Brewer at Couchiching Craft Brewing Co., celebrated consecutive gold wins for Black River Stout and a silver for Atherley Pale Ale at the 2023 awards.
  • The award-winning beers, Beer 101 Bock and Beer 101 Strong Ale, are available for purchase at the Wine Visitor + Education Centre in Niagara-on-the-Lake and online at ncteachingwinery.ca.
