Published by Leonardo Calcagno

Who are you :
Our names are Hayley and Abbie. We are both students, Abbie is studying biophysics and Hayley is studying film. We are both big bakers and think it’s important to use ethical ingredients, which is why all of our baked goods are vegan. We also offer gluten-free options to be inclusive of different dietary needs. The best part about baking for us is to be creative and try new flavours that our customers, friends, and family will enjoy!

Do you have a way to organize your day to maximize your work ?
We write a list of the tasks we have for the day and split them up based on out skill and expertise. We don’t have a regular schedule because it depends on how many orders we get, but from there we can figure out how to get everything done so that our baked goods are fresh and ready to go for our customers when they need them.

What tips would you give to improve productivity ?
Be organized! It’s all about time management.

You’re better than your colleagues to :
Know our strengths and take advantage of our creativity.

What is the best advice anyone has given you ?
Try to do something that you really enjoy doing. Because we are both students this type of work gives us the opportunity to be creative and do something we love, while having a more flexible schedule so that there is also time to study.

What is your best tip for saving time ?
Make lists, spreadsheets, or use a calendar so that you know what needs to be done and when. Start with smaller tasks that you can get out of the way so that when you finish a bigger project there are no loose ends. This is especially important with baking as our products need to be baked fresh, so we must prepare other elements before-hand.

What is your routine start and end of the day ?
We start the day by checking our email and following up with requests. If we have an order we begin the process by getting all of our supplies together and figuring out what needs to be replenished. We clean our workspace to get ready to prepare our products. We then start baking and make frosting or decorations while the cupcakes or cookies are in the oven. We finish up by cleaning up our space and having the baked goods ready for pick-up.

Aside from your computer and your phone, what gadget can you not you go without?
Our KitchenAid mixer is a lifesaver!
