Who are you: Jonas Emmertsen
Your Current job: Designer at Hello Monday
In which city are you located: New York
A word to define what kind of worker you are: Teamplayer
What tools are essential to your life: Google Maps – Where am I?, Seamless – Survival of the fittest, Uber – From A to B when being extra lazy.
What does your office space look like: Very much like a home. At Hello Monday we believe that an office space needs to look welcoming and relaxing for people to open up and do their magic.
What kind of music do you listen when you are working: It all depends on my mood. Generally I listen to indie rock, soul, disco, jazz. I use the Discover Weekly feature from Spotify a lot. I think it helps me discover new artists. Lately I’ve been listening a lot to Connan Mockasin.
Do you have a way to organize your day to maximize your work: I’m not a big fan of organizing things, or putting things into boxes. I do whatever I feel like in the moment, but I do feel my work flow is best in the morning or late at night. I can struggle in the afternoon, but a stroll and a coffee often saves the day.
What tips would you give to improve productivity: Don’t ever be afraid to ask for guidance from your co-workers. At Hello Monday I feel everyone will drop whatever they are working with, to help each other if someone gets stuck. It helps me a lot to know there’s a team in my back.
You’re better than your colleagues to: Play FIFA – no doubt.
What is the best advice anyone has given you: An old teacher of mine told me to always keep my feet on the ground. I think of this a lot – especially since my life has changed drastically the last couple of years.
What is your best tip for saving time: For me it’s not about doing things fast, but doing things right, and that you can’t really connect with the factor of time.
What is your routine start and end of the day: I always have meetings in the morning and sometimes until lunch. After that I have the rest of the day to work on my stuff. Generally, I don’t believe in routines and it’s even harder to have routines in a city like New York. I often have no idea what I’m going to do throughout my day.
Aside from your computer and your phone, what gadget can you not go without: Actually, I’m not really into owning gadgets. I know it sounds weird because I work with creating digital products and experiences, but maybe that is the reason why.
