Office tale of Sergey Kondyk, senior motion designer at AIC

Published by Leonardo Calcagno

Who are you :
Hi everyone! I’m Sergey Kondyk, Senior Motion Designer at AIC, which is the leading UI/UX company in Russian market.

Your current job :
AIC has more than 15 years of experience in creating online services and web sites for banks, government and other fields of digital experience. Here I deal with interface animation and micro  interactions. I bring life and dynamics to static websites. The big cluster of my work is 3D. Since the introduction of WEB-GL technology there is plenty of possibilities to create volumetric objects.

In which city are you located?
Our company is based in Moscow. And, well, our office is in the heart of Russia, as we sit in the historical centre of the city. So every day we enjoy beautiful view — Red Square and the river Moskva. And another view to enjoy in our workspace are our concepts and layouts.

A word to define what kind of worker you are :
Enthusiastic.

What tools are essential to your life (app, software, etc..)
I create animation for interfaces, Behance project cases and showreels with the help of these tools — AE, Cinema4D, Octane.
I use Photoshop and Illustrator — they are my essentials. And strict Basecamp is my project- and time-manager!

What does your office space look like?
Literally, the office is our second home. It’s a comfortable working space, cozy community room and a kind of game room with x-box and table soccer. We do enjoy competitive environment and our team is Moscow champion in table soccer 🙂

What kind of music do you listen when you are working ?

I love the question. Music is essential in designer’s work! I start the day with Solomun, then switch to Jamie XX or Philipp Kirkorov. Our music taste is the coolest!

Do you have a way to organize your day to maximize your work ?
We plan the whole week carefully on Monday briefing: set priorities, set timing and — game on! And yes, we fuck it up sometimes.

What tips would you give to improve productivity ?
Log out from social networks, do the most important things before the midday, have a good rest at the weekend. That’s it.

You’re better than your colleagues to :
Well, considering professional qualities, I’m better in motion design. I’m the one in our company to manage everything that runs, flies and jumps in 2D and 3D realities of our projects.

What is the best advice anyone has given you ?
Get inspiration from everything around — people, beauty, experience, movies.

What is your best tip for saving time ?
The main advice I can address to anyone — do not hesitate to ask questions. Yes, it’s saves time.

What is your routine start and end of the day ?
On my way to work I plan my day and think of what to do first. Evening is the time for self-education, lectures, case studies and project discussions. 19:00 is a table soccer time!

Aside from your computer and your phone, what gadget can you not you go without?
It’s my GoPro hero4 black. I love making funny movies when we travel. I’m indispensable in this respect.
