Who are you and your current job?

I am Eduardo Martinez, Brewer, and sommelier at Beer Fort.


What was the inspiration behind your brewery? 

I started as a home brewer in 2006. I immediately saw that Barcelona could accept this type of product. After I met Mr. Fort and thanks to him, we were able to start our professional adventure. The idea was to create a microbrewery to power our pub, "El Vaso De Oro". The idea was to create a beer to agree with food, in addition to making the styles that we like, usually American styles, although we have done literally everything. Always starting from an idea of quality and creativity. To the point of winning a gold medal with our Barcelona Common Beer in Barcelona Beer Challenge 2016 and we also have a medal in this 2017, but we do not know yet which will be.


 Can you give us a tour of your beer scene?

In Barcelona, the Craft Beer scene is great, which allows us to sell 90% of our production in the same city. Every time we have more specialized establishments and some of the best Pubs in Europe, like Bier Cab, with 30 shooters. In addition, Barcelona houses between 15 and 20 projects of brewing, between brewpubs and micro. This week also marks the fifth edition of the Barcelona Beer Festival, the most important beer festival in southern Europe.


What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a brewery?

I would tell, it is very beautiful and exciting, but it is also hard and with a lot of sacrifices.The one who tries must be convinced that it is more than just a paid job, that person must feel the passion and the love towards the beer, otherwise, it will be very difficult that it can maintain the constancy that this work requires. On the other hand, your beer will make your levels of ego and pride not come up too, because when you think you know everything, She will show you just the opposite.
