Who are you and your current job?
I’m Oscar Enguita, living my dream, with my partner Carlos Guerrero, of enjoying a good craft beer in our small island of Ibiza. I manage the commercial and promotion department in Ibiza Beer Company, Carlos the administrative one, and we share the brewing moments of our Ibosim craft beers, as it is what we really love.
What was the inspiration behind your brewery?
The main goal of our brewery is to work with passion tired of bored works as engineers, we decide to open the first brewery of our island and share our work, and beers of course, with our people. We opened a Brewhouse where our brewery and bar share the same space with the integral cooperative of Ibiza, focusing on local initiatives and products, looking for interesting synergies and cooperation with local projects.
Ibosim was the name that the Fenicians gave our island and it means ‘island of the god Bes’. Bes is considered the god of good humor, diversity, and joy, amongst many other skills, and the Ibosim craft beer is an authentic hommage to him.
Can you give us a tour of your beer scene?
Being the first and only brewery in a place it could be good for some things, but definitely it is difficult to build a good beer culture, after 4 years of hard work we can be proud of a good beer lovers community asking for the best beer around, and the important knowledge of foreign visitors bringing good beer culture and appreciating our work, it has been also very important.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a brewery?
Good luck! hehe, it is not easy and just do it if you love it, you are going to enjoy the rest of your life, otherwise, if you are thinking about making money, just forget it!
