What was the inspiration behind your brewery?

I started my brewery because I was very passionate about home-brewing beer and felt that the beers I was brewing were unique and would be a good addition to the world of beer, and particularly to my home state of Maine. I had a background in events and bars/restaurants and had many ideas for how a brewery could be an integral part of a community and a way to bring people together.

Can you give us a tour of your beer scene?

The local beer scene in Maine is wonderful. The average quality of the beer is very high and there is a tremendous amount of respect and support amongst the Brewers. Our local scene is dominated by IPA, but this is true for the vast majority of the modern brewing world. There are some exceptions, including the wonderful Belgian-inspired beers from Allagash.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a brewery?

Do something different! Create new flavors and concepts! Be patient and loving with your beers and have quality be the foundation of your business.
