Tatev Ghulyan, designer at PicsArt

Published by Leonardo Calcagno

Who are you :

My name is Tatev Ghulyan, I’m 25 years old, I’m a designer from Armenia.

Your current job:

I worked for PicsArt for the past 2 years in Yerevan.

In which city are you located?

It’s funny to be asked this question now because I’m in the process of relocating. I’ve lived in Armenia all my life, but I just moved to the United States literally 2 days ago. But I’m happy to continue working for PicsArt here too.

A word to define what kind of worker you are:

Motivated, persistent and productive.

What tools are essential to your life (app, software, etc..)

It’s hard to find any digital artist/designer who can live without Adobe Collection, so I’m one of those. The ones I always work with are Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Indesign, Adobe Photoshop. I have also lately started working with Adobe Premier Pro and After Effects.

What does your office space look like?

I work in a very creative open space. I don’t have my own office, but I have the whole floor to work on. Over 300 people share the same huge space and that’s really awesome. You can find inspiration anywhere you look. Sharing the space with all those artists gives you an enormous amount of motivation.

What kind of music do you listen when you are working?

I think music has an essential role in an artist’s life. I get inspired by music every single day and anything I do is influenced by it. Having said that, I don’t necessarily listen to the music while working most of the time, but when I do, it’s usually something energetic and playful. I attended the Georgian Electronic Music Festival lately and I enjoyed it very much. So I guess I could say I am into Electronic music at this moment.

Do you have a way to organize your day to maximize your work?

I’m a morning person, so for me, the best way to maximize my work is to wake up really early. That gives me enough time to organize my day. All you need is a glass of water and with the fresh mind, you can conquer the world.

What tips would you give to improve productivity?

When it comes to being more productive as a professional, we’re generally speaking about time management.

If you are not getting anywhere with something you trying really hard, never give up, but learn to give yourself a break and then come back to it later with the fresh mind. I promise that will help you in ways you never imagined.

You’re better than your colleagues to:

I think It’s very unfair and wrong to compare people because everyone has a different background, different mindset, different talent.

I don’t consider myself better than anyone I just think I am unique and by being put in a team with people of different strengths and talents, I’m able to bring innovative, creative ideas to the table.

What is the best advice anyone has given you?

The best advice I have ever received was from my aunt and that was; “The Best investment you can ever make is your education “.

What is your best tip for saving time?

The best way to save time is to have the ability to organize your time wisely and you can do that by planning your day.

What is your routine start and end of the day?

My day starts with checking my emails and ends with checking my next day’s schedule.

Aside from your computer and your phone, what gadget can you not you go without?

Except for my phone and computer, I also use my digital drawing pad on a daily basis, which I use to draw all my designs.
