Melosha Ratnasingham, graphic design and illustration

Published by Leonardo Calcagno

Who are you :

I’d like to say that I’m a creator of some sort. More in the graphic design and illustration field.

Your current job :

I’m currently a student and freelance designer.

In which city are you located?

 Toronto, Ontario

A word to define what kind of worker you are :

Hmmm. Eccentric?

What tools are essential to your life (app, software, etc..)

Sketchbook is a must along with things from the Adobe Creative Cloud.

What does your office space look like?

I don’t really have a set office space… I mostly work at my desk, which can be an organized chaos at times, sometimes I work on the floor if I need space or at a coffee shop or even on my bed.

What kind of music do you listen to when you are working?

It could be anything depending on what I’m feeling. From R&B to Kpop to instrumentals.

Do you have a way to organize your day to maximize your work?

I usually start off by writing down a realistic schedule of what needs to be done and what I can do for that day. It’s always good to set goals for yourself to maximize productivity.

What tips would you give to improve productivity?

I think anyone who procrastinates and gets easily distracted like me needs to test out different methods to be productive. Mine consists of writing down what needs to be done and planning out the day. It can also mean being organized and pacing yourself so you don’t rush everything last minute.

You’re better than your colleagues to :

Oh boy, I don’t think I’m better than anyone at anything design wise, we all have our unique styles. But, I do have a wicked sock collection compared to anyone I know.

What is the best advice anyone has given you?

It’s ok to fail. I think a lot of people hear this but I don’t understand it until it happens. It’s the weirdest and most satisfying feeling to realize you’ve failed but it deepens your understanding of life a little more. Failing doesn’t mean you’re a failure.

What is your best tip for saving time?

I haven’t found the secret to this yet. Staying organized and managing your time well is probably the way to go. Also, it’s ok to take your time in certain things but I would say remember where to use your time – what can you skip and what needs more attention in your design process.

What is your routine start and end of the day?

I don’t really have a real routine. Usually, check up on social media, relax for a bit then get into work mode. I also like working throughout the night since it’s a lot more peaceful.

Aside from your computer and your phone, what gadget can you not you go without?

My iPod for sure.
