How to Groom Your Dog

How to Groom Your Dog

Published by Programme B

If you have a pet dog, you more than likely love to snuggle with them, especially when their coat of fur is extra soft and clean.  But what about when your dog starts to transform into something that resembles a Tramp much more than they do a Lady and you are unable to get them down to the groomers for a while?  This is exactly when knowing some very simple grooming tips that you can do yourself is going to go a long way and allow you to have your Tramp looking and feeling like their Lady self in no time at all.  Here is what you need to know when it comes to grooming your dog at home.

Why You Bathe and Brush Your Dog

To get started grooming your dog, you are going to want to start brushing them a minimum of a few days per week, each brushing session lasting for a few minutes while using quality pet grooming vacuum attachments.  This is going to help your dog get into the routine of being brushed on a regular basis.  On top of helping your dog get into the habit of being brushed, brushing your dog is also going to be one of the most effective ways that you can keep them clean.  That’s right, brushing your dog is even more effective than bathing, which should only be done every now and then. And if you are going to give your dog a bath, be sure that you brush them first in order to remove any heavy dirt that may be hiding in their coat.  If you don’t, when your dog gets into the bath, they are just going to make the bathwater dirty, which will then lead to your dog becoming dirtier as well.

Once you have brushed away the dirt and have gotten your dog into the bath, be sure that you only use a high-quality shampoo on their fur, as many of the inexpensive varieties contain different harsh ingredients that can actually irritate your dog’s skin.  Another tip when it comes to dog shampoo is to dilute it with a little bit of water.  This will make it much easier for you to rinse all of it out at the end of the bath.

Cutting Your Dog’s Hair

Once you have successfully washed and brushed your dog, you may feel as though you want to give them a little trim as well.  If this is the case, be sure that you are extremely careful when using your scissors, and always be sure that you are using the proper equipment.  Instead of regular scissors, try using a professional set of clippers or shears, ideally purchasing a proper grooming table allowing your dog to be secured to during their haircut.

Grooming your dog can be a very rewarding experience that has the potential to bring you that much closer to your dog.  Just be sure that you follow the tips mentioned above when you groom your dog and you will have a soft, fluffy dog to cuddle with every day of the week.
